Docs / Getting Started

Introduction

Vela is a platform for deploying and running applications close to your users, with zero-downtime releases and observability built in from the first deploy.

New here? The Quickstart gets a project deployed in under five minutes.

Projects & environments

Every application on Vela lives inside a project. A project holds one or more environments — typically production and preview — each with its own domain, environment variables, and deploy history.

Preview environments are created automatically for every branch and pull request, and are torn down when the branch is merged or deleted.

Regions

Deploys are replicated across Vela's edge regions automatically. Requests are routed to the nearest healthy region; if a region becomes unavailable, traffic fails over without any change to your configuration.

name: storefront
regions:
  - fra1
  - iad1
  - sin1
  - syd1
build:
  command: "npm run build"
  output: "dist"
